Ever dreamed of a place where the mountains whisper ancient legends and the clouds feel close enough to touch? Welcome to Kinnaur. This isn't just another Himalayan road trip; it's a 7-day passage into one of India’s most mystical and ruggedly beautiful valleys.
We start our journey in the nostalgic lanes of Shimla and push deep into the "Land of the Gods." From the intricate wooden carvings of Sarahan’s Bhimakali Temple to the emerald green meadows of Sangla where the Baspa River sings, every mile is a revelation. You'll stand at the very edge of the border in Chitkul and wake up to the sun kissing the Kinner Kailash peaks in Kalpa. If you’re looking for a trip that moves your soul as much as it moves your camera, this is it.
Witness the stunning Indo-Saracenic architecture of Sarahan's sacred site
Stand at the edge of the Indo-Tibetan border in this pristine hamlet
Spot the sacred Shivling rock atop the majestic Kailash mountains in Kalpa
Explore the lush, sun-drenched apple orchards of Narkanda
Your journey begins the moment you land in Chandigarh. Our local driver will meet you with a warm welcome, and soon we’ll be leaving the city heat behind for the winding mountain roads. As we climb toward Shimla, the "Queen of Hills," you’ll feel the air get crisp and see the pine trees grow taller. After checking in, the evening is all yours—stroll down the historic Mall Road, grab a hot coffee, and watch the world go by from the iconic Ridge.
Today, we leave the crowds of Shimla for the quiet, forest-draped trails of Sarahan. The drive is a sensory treat, winding through dense groves of oak and cedar that seem to hold onto the morning mist. Sarahan is home to the legendary Bhimakali Temple, a stunning mix of Hindu and Buddhist architecture carved entirely from wood and stone. It’s a peaceful place to reflect while looking out at the snow-capped Srikhand Mahadev peak in the distance.
After a mountain breakfast, we head deeper into the Baspa Valley to Sangla. This is where the landscape shifts from forest to dramatic, high-altitude river valleys. The Baspa River flows with a mesmerizing turquoise hue, cutting through emerald meadows and apple orchards. Sangla feels like a world away from everything, resting in the shadows of the Greater Himalayas, just a stone's throw from the Tibetan border.
Get ready for a highlight! Today we drive to Chitkul, the very last village on the Indian side of the border. At 3,450 meters, the air is thin but unbelievably pure. Wander through the traditional Kinnauri houses, listen to the river roar, and perhaps grab a plate of hot Maggi at the famous "Hindustan Ka Aakhri Dhaba." It’s a place that makes you feel both small and incredibly alive at the same time.
We say goodbye to Sangla and head toward the cliffside village of Kalpa. This is the best place to witness the grandeur of the Kinner Kailash range. Keep your eyes on the peaks—the sacred Shivling rock is famous for changing colors as the sun moves across the sky. The evening in Kalpa is magical; as the temperature drops, the stars come out in numbers you’ve never seen before.
As we begin our slow descent back toward the plains, we stop at Narkanda. Known as the "Apple Capital," this quiet town is surrounded by some of the finest orchards in the country. It’s a place of rolling hills and panoramic views. If you’re feeling adventurous, we can head up to Hatu Peak, where you get a full 360-degree view of the snow-clad peaks you’ve spent the last week exploring.
It’s time to head back. After one last breakfast in the mountains, we’ll drive you back to Chandigarh. As the high peaks fade into the rearview mirror, you’ll be carrying home a heart full of Kinnauri sunshine and memories that will last a lifetime. We’ll drop you at the airport or station for your journey home, hoping to see you in the mountains again soon!
